Allergies

At Paws & Whiskers Co., the health and safety of your pets—and the humans who love them—are our top priority. We understand that allergies can be a serious concern for both animals and people. This policy outlines how we handle allergy-related information, what precautions we take, and what steps you should take to ensure the products you choose are safe for your household.

1. Ingredient & Material Transparency

We strive to provide complete and accurate information about the materials, ingredients, and components used in our products.

  • Treats & Food: Ingredient lists are provided on the product page and/or product packaging. These include all primary ingredients as well as additives, preservatives, or flavorings.

  • Toys & Accessories: Materials such as fabrics, dyes, stitching, leather, rope, and metal components are disclosed when available.

  • Grooming Products: Full ingredient breakdowns, including scents, essential oils, and cleansing agents, are listed when provided by the manufacturer.

While we make every effort to provide accurate details, some products are made by small-batch or artisan suppliers. In rare cases, minor variations in materials may occur without prior notice.

2. Common Allergens in Pet Products

Allergies can be triggered by a variety of substances, including but not limited to:

  • Food Ingredients: Wheat, soy, dairy, chicken, beef, fish, lamb, corn, peanuts, eggs.

  • Natural Additives: Certain herbs, honey, or essential oils.

  • Fabric Materials: Wool, certain synthetic fibers, or latex.

  • Dyes & Chemicals: Textile dyes, cleaning agents, tanning chemicals in leather.

If your pet has known sensitivities, please review all product details carefully before purchasing.

3. Cross-Contamination Risk

Although many of our suppliers maintain clean production facilities, some items may be produced in environments that handle multiple materials or ingredients, which could result in trace amounts of allergens. If you require allergen-specific manufacturing (e.g., grain-free, poultry-free, latex-free), please contact us before ordering so we can advise you accordingly.

4. Customer Responsibility

As each pet’s sensitivity is unique, it is your responsibility to:

  • Consult your veterinarian before introducing new foods, treats, grooming products, or materials to a pet with known allergies.

  • Read all provided ingredient and material information.

  • Test new edible products by introducing them in small quantities first, monitoring for reactions.

  • Inspect new toys, bedding, and accessories before use to ensure they are safe for your pet’s specific needs.

5. Signs of Allergic Reactions

In Pets:

  • Itching, scratching, or chewing at skin

  • Redness, rashes, or hives

  • Ear infections or head shaking

  • Vomiting or diarrhea

  • Swelling of the face, muzzle, or paws

In Humans:

  • Skin irritation or rashes after contact

  • Sneezing, watery eyes, or respiratory discomfort

  • Swelling or itching after handling a product

If you or your pet display any of these symptoms, discontinue use immediately and seek medical or veterinary care.

6. Returns for Allergy Concerns

If you discover that a product is unsuitable due to allergies, you may return it under our Returns & Exchanges Policy, provided it meets return conditions (e.g., unopened and unused for edible goods). In some cases, we may offer store credit instead of a refund for opened, non-edible items.

7. Disclaimer

While we take every precaution to provide safe, clearly labeled products, Paws & Whiskers Co. cannot guarantee that all products are 100% free from all potential allergens. By purchasing from our store, you acknowledge and accept that some risk of allergic reaction may still exist.
